A little About Me
My name is Hannah Turner. I have been sober for 2.5 years now. I got clean when I was living in Paris France for school. I will share more about my journey on this platform, but for now I will say that being so far away from my comfort zone helped me realize how bad my sustance abuse issues really were. I was lucky enough to have an incredible support system including family and close friends that lifted me up in hard times so that I can be here now helping others. My goal is to inspire, encourgae, and hold space for everyone going through this journey. As we know, sobriety is more than just abstaining from substances; it's a lifestyle that can improve your health, relationships, and overall well-being. It can boost your physical health, enhance mental clarity, and improve emotional stability. What are some other benefits you've experienced? Share your insights and let's inspire each other to live healthier lives.
This Month's Poem and Journal Entry
For this Month's poem, I chose one depicting the rules of social drinking and how contradictory and demanding it is to stay in the bounds of drinking properly in a social setting. For our jounral entry, I recommend everyone reflect on times you felt these rules of social drinking and any emotions that came wirth it, frustration or confusion. How did you witness others around you behaving and what was your behavior? Please note that you do not have to share these journal entrys with me or anyone else if you choose. If you do however, you may share them on this platform or with me directly. Poem:
The Rules of Social Drinking
You must partake
Don’t be a party pooper
Don’t make people uncomfortable by not drinking
If you want to be included,
you must keep up with everyone
But be able to hold your liquor
Don’t ever make a scene by getting sick or falling over
Don’t make anyone have to care for you
Don’t have too much
Don’t have too little
Don’t address issues with alcohol
You don’t want to be a bummer
With these social rules of drinking
How do we expect anyone to not have a problem?
Mocktail of the Month: Aperol Spritz It Up!
This June, sit back and relax with everyon'es favorite mid day treat, the Aperol spritz! My non alcoholic take on this italian classic is an easy to follow recipe that takes only minutes to prepare! All you need is Kin Spritz; Invigorating Energizer, Orange Vanilla Waterloo, and Lyre's Italian non alcoholic Spirit. Mix together in a class with a 1/4 ratio, stir, add a festiv ganish such as an orange slice and oua la! Enjoy!
- Tips for making mocktails: You don't need to make them fancy, focus on a few stable brands and ingredients to stock your fridge like the ones I've listed above.
- Glasswear makes a difference: It's amazing the impact a fun glass makes on your mood. Having a fun drink in a fun glass brightens up my evenings every time!
- Garnish when you can: Garnish is a key tool to making your mocktail look like a real drink. I love rosemary and lime wedges but orange slices and strawberries work wonders as well. All depends on the drink!
Thank you for reading! Always remember: clarity can rise from chaos.
